supersdr

supersdr connects to KiwiSDRs — internet-connected SDR receivers that people run publicly around the world. That flips the usual model: instead of needing the right hardware and antenna for a band, you connect to a KiwiSDR that’s already sited where the signal is good, and listen through it. It’s invaluable for HF work (where a good antenna is a real commitment), for hearing what a frequency sounds like from another continent, and for monitoring signals you can’t receive from where you are.

supersdr is a graphical client, launched into its own window from Security → Software Defined Radio → supersdr. Installed from the AUR.

Using it

  1. Find a public KiwiSDR — the KiwiSDR public-receiver directory is one of the Oniomarchy webapps, and it lists hundreds of them by location and band coverage.
  2. Launch supersdr and point it at a receiver’s host and port.
  3. Tune and listen through the remote radio, with a waterfall just like a local receiver — you’re driving someone else’s antenna over the network.
